The Offshore Energies UK (OGUK) medical, formerly known as the UKOOA medical, is the formal medical fitness assessment required of workers travelling offshore or working in the demanding environments of the oil, gas, and energy sectors. The assessment confirms the worker is medically fit to operate in remote locations where rapid medical evacuation may be limited and where physical demands are significant. Without a valid OGUK certificate, the worker cannot be deployed offshore.

What the OGUK medical is.
How we deliver it.
Our clinic provides the full OGUK medical in a single appointment of approximately 60 to 90 minutes, with all required tests performed on-site by qualified medical practitioners. Vision and colour vision testing, hearing assessment, lung function (spirometry), blood pressure and cardiovascular review, ECG where indicated by age or history, urine analysis, and a comprehensive clinical examination. The OGUK certificate is signed and issued the same day in the vast majority of cases, ready to present to your employer or operator.
WHAT THE MEDICAL INCLUDES
Eight components, completed on the day.
A full OGUK medical includes the components below, all performed in a single appointment by qualified medical practitioners. Where additional testing is indicated by your medical history or age (such as ECG for those over a certain threshold), this is performed on-site without requiring a return visit.

Full clinical examination.
Comprehensive head-to-toe physical assessment by an OGUK-approved medical practitioner, including review of medical history and current medications.

Vision and colour vision testing.
Visual acuity assessment and Ishihara colour vision testing, both required for offshore work.

Hearing (audiometry) test.
Pure-tone audiometry across the speech-frequency range, performed in our acoustically-controlled testing space.

Lung function (spirometry).
Tightening and refining the appearance of stretch marks on the body.

ECG (where required by age or history).
Resting 12-lead electrocardiogram for workers over the OGUK age threshold, or where indicated by personal or family medical history.

Blood pressure and cardiovascular assessment.
Resting blood pressure measurement and clinical assessment of cardiovascular risk factors and history.

Urine analysis.
Standard urinalysis screening for renal, metabolic, and other health markers required by the OGUK protocol.

OGUK certificate issued same day.
Your OGUK medical certificate, signed and validated by the examining doctor, ready to present to your employer or operator on departure.
Certificate validity
Two years for most workers. One year for some.
OGUK medical certificates are typically valid for 2 years for most workers, reducing to 1 year for those over 40 or those with certain medical conditions. Your examining doctor will advise on your specific certificate validity at the appointment, with the renewal date clearly stated on the certificate. Plan to renew at least 4 to 6 weeks before expiry to avoid any deployment gap.
